Since 2004, the researchers of our Company jointly with teaching staff of the Chair of Applied Geophysics at the Irkutsk State Technical University (ISTU) annually conduct educational practices for students to gain work experience in electric prospecting at the geological-geophysical base camp «Chernorud» situated in the center of the western Circum-Baikal region.
The base camp is located in the picturesque area close to Lake Baikal - 4 km away from Maloye More. It offers housing for accommodation and premises for geophysical equipment installation. Over 30 years educational courses have been delivered on the subjects: geology, geochemistry and geophysics to get acquainted with geophysical methods of gravimetry, seismic and electric prospecting, and radiometry.
Practice on electric prospecting involves all procedures performed by deep and low-depth TEM and MTS methods. Trainees are involved in a complete set of field works, data processing and interpretation.
Up-to-date hardware-software units for electric prospecting are provided by teaching staff sharing experience in outlay of sounding devices in the field. During signal recording procedures the operator of electric prospecting stations gives relevant explanations. Students are also taught to work in natural conditions at exciting geological sites and become familiar with present-day approaches to recording, processing and interpretation of electric prospecting data.
Results of field survey are further discussed with the teaching staff of the Chair of Geophysics and are included in research work and defending diploma works.
